ACT

The ACT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities, and ACT prep is a vital part of garnering success in the college application process. It provides colleges with a common number score that will allow them to compare all applicants. Admission to most schools is based on high school GPA, academic transcript, letters of recommendation, interviews, personal essays, and the ACT or SAT score.

Many merit-based scholarships use the ACT score in screening and selecting applicants.

The ACT has four sections: English, Reading, Math, and Science.
There is also an optional writing test.

  • English: tests grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and rhetorical skills.
  • Math: tests algebra I and II, geometry, and some trigonometry.
  • Reading includes four passages (prose fiction, social studies, humanities, and natural sciences) with 10 questions per passage.
  • Science has questions on science-based passages with graphs, charts, tables, and research summaries.
  • Writing section is a 40-minute essay.

Nationally, the average composite score is 21 out of a range of scores from 1 to 36.
